All the Help You Need
“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.” (Ephesians 2:19-20)
When you walk into church on a Sunday morning, you enter with expectations. Perhaps it is to take something meaningful away from the sermon. Maybe you are there to enjoy the choir or singing the hymns yourself. Sadly, you may only be attending to please your spouse or parents. Have you ever thought that participating in Sunday worship, joining a church, praying daily, caring for others, etc., opens us to God’s divine Kingdom?
We human beings are not alone in this expansive universe. The same God who created and sustained the apostles, prophets, and saints is the same God who responds to you and me. Our Triune God didn’t love them more than you and me. Some may have been braver, more intelligent, or more sacrificial, but God created you in God’s image for this time in human history, with specific skills and reasons that are unlike any other person.
Too many people fail to understand their true importance in our world. They choose entertainment over substance. They belittle themselves and make bad choices because of their poor self-image. If everyone listened to their lesser selves, the world would still be in the Stone Age. God needs us at our very best, striving to enhance the world around us.
Today, think about yourself as unique and special. Doing this is not intended to spark one’s narcissism but to understand that God created you to improve the world around you. You were made for a purpose unique in our world. As the Holy Spirit gave incredible support for the apostles, prophets, and saints of the past, so will that same Spirit also bless you. Then, prayerfully ask God to direct your ways so you can respond to your unique call. Finally, trust God by acting on your intuition; that still, small voice will lead you to your true call. You just need to act!
