New Gallery Display- Art by Mark Doherty

Visit the Westminster Gallery and enjoy a new exhibit featuring art by Des Moines artist Mark Doherty. Mark began creating art in his retirement years. He is self-taught and has only been painting seriously for the past three years. Dedication to one of the 2020 political candidates led to his successful “blue tie” online fundraiser, and with that came the self-confidence to go further with his art.

Mark uses acrylics to create abstract art with bright colors and metallics. He enjoys incorporating texture, which he feels adds something unexpected to his work, and he feels building layers into his paintings makes them stronger and more interesting. He wants his paintings to leave an impression.

Mark says, “I enjoy letting my feelings freely take shape, and I want my art to be striking and ready for individual interpretation… I want to convey a feeling of joy.
