COVID

by Paul Francis, Head Custodian

Much has been said about where COVID came from, and who started it. The blame game. Well, it’s here now and who’s responsible is not the issue. We can’t change that, but what we can change and, perhaps even prevent, is how we deal with it and subsequently conquer another health crisis. It caught us off guard and it wasn’t taken seriously. Preparation is the key. We must better-prepare ourselves. If possible, a vaccination should be lying in wait. You get a headache, you immediately take an aspirin. You don’t wonder how the headache started or blame someone or something else (as we often do). We want the headache gone, so we act accordingly. We lost many lives because we didn’t act swiftly or seriously. We spent a lot of time bickering about who wasn’t wearing a mask. Some people actually think they’re bigger than COVID. It’s not going to happen to them. We waited, we argued and some were even killed for their stance on masks. It cost us many. It cost us dearly. History has a way of repeating itself. History is bigger than us all. When we heard about Y2K we stocked up on canned goods and other essentials. For starters, we need to stock up on kindness, compassion, empathy and equally important – love, as in love thy neighbor, love thy fellow American. We spent more time and energy fighting amongst each other, than we did fighting the virus. Let’s show ourselves and the world we’re better than that. Muhammad Ali once said he shook up the world. Let us shake up the world with our benevolence toward one another. Evil can be blinding, and you can’t see the true picture. Free your mind – the rest will follow.

Peace!
