Burning the Scriptures into Your Soul

Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 was the passage that popped up on my desktop this morning. I appreciate “Bible Verse of the Day.” What spoke to me about this passage was verse 6. “Keep these words…in your heart.” The verse challenged me to consider how Scripture touches my heart. Singing the words of faith brings joy, hope, contemplation, and meaning to my heart. Singing ignites my soul in a unique and empowering way.

Memorizing specific passages of Scripture impacts the soul, like singing. The process of memorization carves their varied meanings into our brain and soul. It is vital to our faith to dive into the Bible from different perspectives. Singing the Scriptures is as old as the worshipping community itself. Reading the Bible like a novel provides an overarching vision of God’s relationship with humanity over vast periods. We often overlook memorization because it requires commitment and work.

When you memorize a Scripture passage that speaks to your heart, the passage becomes a part of you. For example, today, spend time memorizing Isaiah 40:28-31, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Memorizing Isaiah 40:28-31 will help you appreciate the everlasting God in a new way. You will begin to understand the unsearchable. You will feel the Spirit’s power and strength in your life. You will remember past times and have confidence in future moments when you mount up like wings like eagles. Finally, you will have the endurance to keep moving forward in faith, hope, and love. Enhance your faith journey today by burning the Scriptures into your soul through memorization.
