A native of Minnesota and Lutheran roots, Ruth grew up just across Iowa’s northern border, north of Armstrong. Cleaning houses, walking beans and detasseling corn taught her the value of work. Parents, church and church life influenced her core values. She is the 2nd oldest of six siblings.
Graduating from Luther College with an accounting degree, she began her professional career at General Mills in Golden Valley, MN. Soon after, by invitation from a college professor, she took off for Akron, OH where she served as the internal auditor at a large Medical Center. During this time, she would marry her college sweet heart Rick, and pass the CPA exam. Upon moving to Des Moines in the early 80’s, she started her church career at St. John’s Lutheran Church, as Parish Steward. During college, a year volunteering at a Lutheran Conference Center in England helped her to understand and appreciate the dynamics of church life. It was at St. John’s where she shared her love of music and instigated the formation of a recorder group.
Now, many years later, coming to Westminster in 2010 as the accountant, felt like coming ‘home’.
Ruth is also a licensed massage therapist. She and her husband Rick are avid bike-riders, watch a lot of movies, and enjoy travelling and hiking
