Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Refugee Garden Ribbon Cutting!

Westminster Presbyterian Church & Lutheran Services in Iowa held a grand opening for a brand new, 11,000 square foot  refugee garden located near Westminster Presbyterian Church in Beaverdale.  The space provides small community garden plots for 21 refugee families near their homes. Community gardening helps support refugee assimilation and stabilizes refugee families by reconnecting farmers with the land as they build their new life in the U.S.

This project has been made possible by the generosity of many groups. The garden received a large match grant from Wellmark Foundation, soil from Polk County, a grant from United Way and mulch from the City of Des Moines. On Sunday, June 3 at 11:15 we held a ribbon cutting to begin this amazing mission. The Refugee Garden is located in the north parking lot of Westminster Church, 4114 Allison Ave. Des Moines, Iowa, 50310.

Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make this project a success!
