Calling All Westminster Artists

The Westminster Visual Arts Committee is pleased to invite all Westminster artists to participate in our next Sanctuary art exhibit, which will be on display beginning September 8th, 2024. Your finished work of art would be due August 25th, giving you several months to complete your project. Here are the details for this exhibit:

Our Theme

The theme we have selected for this show is “Reflections on Faith.” Artists are asked to reflect on your own personal faith journey – from childhood to Confirmation to adulthood. How has your faith grown and changed throughout the stages of your life? How has your faith shaped you as a person, and how has it guided your life choices? How can these thoughts, events and beliefs be expressed through art? Your creation can be abstract or realistic – a single image, a collage, etc. We will provide you with resources, quotes and biblical texts to assist you in your creative process. In a few weeks (date TBA), we plan to hold a check-in meeting of all participating artists to further explore the topic, answer questions and share ideas.

Art Requirements

We will provide you with a canvas, if you need one. We have purchased several canvases that are 36” x 36” (our preferred size). However, we also have a couple of canvases that are 30” x 40”, and we are open to other sizes that would be similar in square footage. You may also use your own canvas or other material, as long as it meets the above-mention criteria and can be hung on the wall with a nylon filament string. Note: if you provide your own canvas, our committee can reimburse you (up to $40) for your purchase. For reimbursement, please submit a receipt to one of our committee members.

A variety of media is acceptable: painting, drawing, mixed media, fabric art, photography, etc.

When you turn in your completed art, you are asked to provide a brief personal biography and a statement about your art, its meaning, and your thoughts in creating it. The exhibit will be on display in the Sanctuary for approximately six weeks.

Ownership and Copyrights

By participating in this project, you are agreeing to allow Westminster to photograph and possibly sell prints/notecards of your work as a fundraiser for future Visual Arts projects. At the end of the show, your work will be returned to you and is yours to keep.

Please be aware that Westminster Church is not responsible for damage to your art. We have never had a problem of this nature, but it is appropriate that we share this information. You may insure your own art if you wish.

Please Say “Yes!”

We hope all Westminster artists will consider joining us in creating an inspirational art exhibit to enhance our worship at Westminster! Simply call the church office, 515-274-1534 and express your interest. Thank you!
