Nursery Assistant

Westminster Presbyterian Church is a large, growing church in Beaverdale. We are hiring qualified individuals to work in our Nursery primarily on Sundays with other shift opportunities throughout the week. Pay starts from $12 - $14 per hour, depending on qualifications. Westminster Presbyterian Church Nursery Assistant Job Description 

Purpose:  To provide dependable, safe and nurturing care to the children in our Nursery.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Cheerfully greet parents and check in children
  • Explain procedures to new parents
  • Label supplies and bags provided by parents
  • Provide care for the children including feeding, diaper care, playing, nurturing, reading
  • Know where parents are, should a child need parental care
  • Checking out children at the end of the shift to their parents and give them a report
  • Keep the nursery tidy, sanitized and safe
  • Understand and follow the nursery policies and procedures
  • Coordinate activities, supply needs and working schedule with the Nursery Director
  • Wear identification badge

 

Evaluation & Compensation:  Evaluation takes place at least annually with the Nursery Director and the Christian Education Director. Pay starts from $12 - $14 per hour, depending on qualifications.

 

Days and Hours:  The primary work shift is Sunday mornings starting at 8:30 to about 11:30, later on occasion. Other opportunities are Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to about 8:15 pm, special events as scheduled, Christmas Eve, and Easter.

***Must be available to work a minimum of one shift on Christmas Eve and Easter.

 

Qualifications:  Must be at least 18 years old, satisfactorily complete a background check and have a High School diploma or GED. Experience caring for children, newborn through 4 years old, is a plus.  Candidates must be dependable, have strong communication and listening skills, good organization and planning skills, and work well in a team.  CPR and First Aid training are required and can be provided if certification is not current.

Purpose

Westminster is seeking an assistant youth director:

  • To assist the Director of Youth and Mission in guiding 6th through 12th graders to grow as 21st century disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • To be an example of faith. To develop adult-student relationships.
  • To help plan and lead Wednesday night and Sunday morning programming.
  • To be the primary leader for occasional lock-ins and Saturday events.
  • To participate as a member of the program team in carrying out the mission of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

The middle school and high school years are a time of soul searching, including deciding on a belief system. By creating a welcoming environment, providing faith direction and encouraging discussion, we help our youth become disciples and active participants in the kingdom of God.

Serve as Example

As youth leaders we strive to be accepting of youthful ideas and understanding of youthful doubts and hesitations concerning their faith journey. At the same time, we want to set an example by being prayerful, faithful disciples by attending church services regularly, participating in church activities and religious study, exhibiting a good balance between work and family involvement, and having solid knowledge of church teachings.

 

Lead Youth Activities

It's the assistant youth director's responsibility to assist in developing and leading activities that will attract different youth to the church and hold their interest. This includes assisting in planning and leading weekly Wednesday night programming, Sunday school, overnights or lock-ins, weekend retreats, and potentially both local and multiday mission trips as negotiated with the Director of Youth and Missions.

 

Maintain Communication Channels

The assistant youth director helps establish and maintain communication channels on many levels -- through student channels such as Facebook, parent channels such as email and text, and the church newsletter to generate overall interest and keep the congregation informed.

 

Skills and Education

A college education is preferred. Familiarity with effective youth ministry is required. Experience leading or helping lead youth groups is desired.  Organization, flexibility, leadership yet the ability to be a team player, and good communication skills, especially listening skills will be needed to succeed. Familiarity with and comfort within the Presbyterian church is helpful. 

 

Relationships

This position is supervised by the Director of Youth and Missions.  Works with program team including the Associate Pastor Chief of Staff, the Christian Education Director, the Communications Director and the Administrative Assistant for the program team. Works directly with volunteers leading the youth program.  May be asked to communicate with the Youth Committee.

Hours and Compensation

10-20 hours a week as negotiated.  $12-15 per hour based on experience.
